Tie-Dyed Mink: I’m in

When we decided to devote the next CLOVER solely to Fashion, I fashioned myself as a “fashionista.” I LOVE clothes and the act of hunting — thrill-of-the-kill style — for the perfect outfit (a true fashionista would be horrified by that term) for the perfect occasion. The proverbial question for me is: “where am I going in this?” I care as much about the where as I do the what to wear. Tops for me is getting dressed for a party of any sort in my own home, followed closely by a dressy dinner party at a good friend’s house. Cipriani Uptown and La Grenouille are close contenders. I’m inspired by how I feel in spaces and choose clothes that will compliment and put me at ease in that environment. I dress for my own folly and truthfully, other women who appreciate the process. For men – it’s the finish line that counts. No matter what our accomplishments, or frankly rivalries, we women typically circle back and cluck over what we’re wearing, hopefully on a silk velvet settee.

I started researching the issue by watching every show I could on www.style.com. Saw it all – loved it all – but was stumped editorially. Much like knowing when to leave a party, I couldn’t find the exact moment – it was all too intoxicating. So, we reached out to the dynamic duo behind Kirna Zabete: Beth Buccini and Sarah Easley. We found their knack for mixing runway trends with street chic appealing and invited them to guest edit the Fashion issue. CLOVER welcomes them and applauds their bold, knowing selections. Their front row seats at the New York and Paris Shows for Fall, 2010 opens our mind and perspective on Fashion.

When I saw the Peter Som image that we selected for the cover I wondered yet again: “where am I going in this?” Please. Tie-dyed mink? I’m in. Perfect over white jeans on a cool Spring night in East Hampton. The flesh-colored Balenciaga number is reserved for a dinner party on a warm September night in Town. The Chrissie Morris Shoes with Fur will anchor patterned Wolford tights and my YSL zip skirt with a white blouse – Classique. I would have a ball wearing The Norman Ambrose dress with Red Fox trim featured for “Le Dernier Cri” just about anywhere. I’m fairly certain Caroline Dean has first dibs on the hotter-than-hot Anthony Vaccarello dress. I love that evening is trending super short and day long. Fashion is fickle, but it sure is fun.

Ezra Pound wrote, “Day by day make it new/yet again make it new!” That’s how I feel about fashion and life in general. Here’s to trying new things. As always, we want to hear from you so won’t you please be in touch.

All the best,
