David Kleinberg
The Master of Quintessential New York Style
Interior Designer David Kleinberg is the go-to decorator for quintessential New York Style. He balances old-school sensibility, honed from a 16-year tenure at the esteemed Parish-Hadley Associates, with a sophisticated, quietly nuanced mix of design. His rooms whisper and entice and then boom – you’re hooked. When Kleinberg left Parish-Hadley in 1997 to start his eponymous David Kleinberg Design Associates www.dkda.com he was already turning heads for his uncompromising talent for designing spaces with singular style and uncanny clarity.
It’s hard to believe that this gracious Park Avenue apartment was decorated over 20 years ago for a prominent couple – it was an inaugural project for Kleinberg’s firm. Originally published by HOUSE & GARDEN and photographed by Matt Hranek, people talk about this apartment as though they saw it for the first time yesterday. Bring up the name David Kleinberg in the rarified world we call New York and you’re likely to still hear praise for this very project. We selected it for our premier issue because it represents timeless style, good taste, and point of view. In a design arena smitten with punchy trends and cheap and cheerful solutions, we embrace this project for one reason: a great talent with impeccable know-how developed a signature, modernist aesthetic and has rightfully been calling it his ever since.
