Raves for What We Crave

Park Avenue Potluck

Park Avenue Potluck

Cheers to PARK AVENUE POTLUCK CELEBRATIONS (Rizzoli New York, 2009)! Co-authored by members of The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) with editing by award-winning food writer and contributing New York Times columnist, Florence Fabricant, this is the go-to, must-have, must-give cookbook this season. It’s also the best feel-good gift – a portion of the book’s proceeds provide funding for the Society’s patient care, research, and education programs at the hospital. Mary’s House Oatmeal Cookies

“Mary’s House Oatmeal Cookies” have earned legendary status – they are named for the formidable Mary Durkin. I’m often invited to her apartment for lunch with a growing group of smart, funny, and creative women that has always included Eleanor Dejoux and Marcie Sohm. The main course is typically Chicken Curry delivered by Swifty’s, but dessert is always her house cookies homemade by Barbara. An extra batch is boxed and sent home for our eagerly awaiting children.

Butternut Squash Soup

Kathy’s Butternut Squash Soup

Cookbook Co-Chair Kathy Thomas’ Butternut Squash Soup has been a runaway hit. We like that it’s more savory than sweet.

Poached Cranberries & Quince

Florence Fabricant contributed this classic recipe which was inspired by the great line from THE OWL AND THE PUSSY CAT: “They dined on mince and slices of quince…”
